Are You a
Daughter of Freedom
?
What if you're right?
There is more to life than you've been experiencing.

Let’s face it. Most of us know deep down that our spiritual life isn’t what it should be. Even many of us who believe the gospel sense an uneasy distance between us and God the Father. Truth be told, we believe He loves everyone else, but secretly think He’s just putting up with us. We hold back, hedge our bets, settle for life at arm’s length from Him. Why?

For some of us the answer lies in less-than-perfect earthly fathers. We have “papa perception problems,” seeing the Heavenly Father through the lens of experience with earthly fathers:

  • A ten-year old girl struggles with the emotional fallout of her parents’ divorce. Her mother searches for a way to help her daughter connect with her Heavenly Father.
  • A teen girl whose father has betrayed her through abandonment hungers for male affirmation, someone to tell her she’s precious.
  • A young professional woman hangs back from deep connection with others because in her abusive relationship with her dad, closeness equaled pain.
  • A middle-aged woman whose dad never connected with her emotionally still feels unseen, unloved, rejected.

What do these women and girls have in common? They are caught in prisons of false perception which keep them from moving toward the only perfect Father any of us ever gets.

Thankfully, God is not limited by our experience. His love breaks through the thickest of walls and heals the deepest of wounds. Whatever our history with earthly fathers, however we have experienced the pain of fatherlessness, God has not left us as spiritual orphans. The love and acceptance He offers us is the real deal, powerful enough to free our hearts from the habit of hiding and the folly of fear.

Wherever we are in our journey to the Father’s heart, it’s time for us to walk in the radical freedom Christ came to give us. We can get free from the “lies that bind” our hearts from intimacy with God and others. We can begin the process of renewing our minds: exchanging the lies we’ve believed for the truth. Each truth, each promise in Scripture, is a powerful key which opens up new freedom and possibilities for our lives. Using the keys God has given in His word, we can become true Daughters of Freedom.
