For Mothers and Daughters...

"Princess of Promise:
Living Who You Are in Christ
"

"You are what you look like. Your value, worth, and success come from pleasing others. You are on a performance basis with God. Only perfection counts; anything less is failure."

These are just a few of the lies which as God’s redeemed daughters we are bombarded every day. If we as grown women are prone to believe them, how much more vulnerable our daughters are to these lies’ devastating effects. How have believing these lies robbed us – and our precious girls – of our rich inheritance in Christ?

But if believing lies steals our inheritance from us, receiving God’s truth restores it. If we will both listen to and obey God’s promises to us, He will show us our true identity as princesses in His royal household. He will lead us to stand firmly before Him covered with the Robe of Righteousness He has supplied for us in Christ. He will crown us with His love and favor. And He will equip us to rise up in God-confidence as princess warriors for the spiritual battles we face. Princess of Promise will guide mothers and daughters into the “throne room,” where they can tune out the sound of lies and tune their hearts to hear the Father’s voice call them “Righteous,” “Beloved,” and “More than Conquerors” in Christ.

"Receiving the Robe of Righteousness"      (Genesis 3: 1-21; Romans 3:21-25)

Many women and girls believe the “lie of the special case” (“God can forgive everyone else’s sin, but not mine”). This session introduces listeners to two types of women who, though they appear quite different, have both believed they are “on their own” and still on a performance basis with God and others. Samantha the Superwoman (Barbie) thinks that perfection and performance are the source of her identity and worth. Sally, who sees herself as a Superfailure (Raggedy Anne), lives under an ongoing sense of condemnation and fear of never measuring up. But God offers to remove Samantha’s “Cape of Capability” and Sally’s “Rags of Rejection” and in light of their union with Christ to place upon both of them a “Robe of Righteousness” (Isaiah 61:10). The good news of the gospel for both these women (and the Samantha and Sally in all of us) is that in justifying us, the Father has once and for all declared us legally righteous in His sight.

"Receiving the Crown of Splendor"            (Romans 8:15-17; Isaiah 61:3)

Not only has God pronounced us legally righteous in His sight through His work of justifying us, but also He has adopted us as His beloved daughters. Unfortunately, though favored children of the King, beloved princesses in His household, most of us are living as paupers and orphans. Why? Paul explains in Romans 8 that we have become slaves again to fear, the pervasive stronghold of our lives. We have believed another form of the “lie of the special case”: “God can love everyone else, but not me.” Scripture proclaims, however: “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us that we should be called the children of God. And that is what we are!” (1 John 3:1)! Only this kind of fierce and tender passion can “cast out fear” (1 John 4:18) from our lives. This teaching is especially helpful for mothers and daughters who have grown up as part of the present “fatherless generation.” “Receiving Our Crown of Splendor” helps us to take off the distorting lens of our experience with earthly fathers, and begin to see and trust our heavenly Father -- “Abba” – as He reveals Himself through the true lens of Scripture. In this place of knowing we are beloved of God, we can release the “ashes” of our lives and receive in their place the “crown of beauty” God promises to give us (Isaiah 61:3).

In a special Time Alone with God, mothers and daughters have the opportunity to process the extent to which they have viewed their heavenly Father through the lens of experience with earthly dads. In Scripture and prayer they can receive a deeper sense of their great belovedness to God, moving from head knowledge that “God is love” to an experiential conviction that “God loves me.”

Craft/ Small Groups: Mothers and daughters can each make a crown which represents their identity as princess daughters of the King. Using the base of BK “crowns” which have been spray-painted gold or silver, they can write a life verse inside and decorate the outside with jewels and glitter.

"Receiving the Sword of the Spirit"            (Ephesians 6:10-18)
Preparing for their adult lives in a world built on hollow and deceptive philosophy, girls are under constant attack. In the battle between lies and truth, they need to get ready for battle, discovering how to be transformed by the renewing of their minds. In this session mothers and daughters will learn how to put on the whole armor of God, how to wield the weapons of spiritual warfare, and how to take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. They will learn how to take up the “Sword of the Spirit” and keep it sharp through “sword drills” – memorizing key promises from scripture which counteract the enemy’s lies.  Equipped and trained, they will be able to stand firm in the battles they face. True to His promises, God will establish them as “more than conquerors” through Christ Jesus.

Small Groups: In this final session women/ girls create their own personal “sword drills,” which will be based on their particular areas of bondage/ weakness/lies. The small group session ends as women surround each new warrior princess in turn to pray her strategic Scriptures over her.
